BWF World Championship

Along with the games like cricket, Tennis, the other most sport which is gaining popularity and has lot of spectators is Badminton. The internationally governing body for this sport will be Badminton World Federation(BWF). As per the regions five different regional confederations are associated with this Badminton World Federation. The regional confederation for Asia is Badminton Asia Confederation; for Africa :Badminton Confederation Of Africa; for both North and South America Badminton Pan Am (Pan America) and for Europe Badminton Europe(BE) and for Oceania Badminton Oceania(BO).

Now coming to the tournament BWF World Championships, these championships are conducted by the Badminton World Federation for awarding the best badminton players across the world. This tournament is formerly called as the IBF World Championship. Initially, this tournament started in the year 1977. As of now from 2003, BWF is conducting the event every year, but during the years when Olympic games were conducted this sports were not conducted.


Every year different nations will host the event. We will have a glance at the previous nations which stood as the champions. If we consider at least bronze medal only 17 countries have won them. Out of which nine are for Asia and five for Europe, One each for North America, South America and Oceania. The country which has not won any medal till now is Africa.


Players who won gold medals in more than one category and are considered as the successful players during the world Championships are Lene Koppen, Christian Hadinata, Park Joo-bong, Han Aiping, Ge Fei, Kim Dong-moon and Gao Ling.
