All About Rigid Gas Permeable Contact Lenses

Rigid gas permeable lenses have distinct characteristics, which are designed to upgrade the existing hard and soft lenses. They are designed in such a way to overcome the drawbacks which people faced with those soft and hard lenses. Gas permeable lenses which are popularly called as GP lenses are made of firm plastic like that of hard lenses but still allow the oxygen to reach the eye just like the soft lenses. They do not contain water or any gel but moves every time we blink our eyes and transmits much oxygen to the eyes. Hence, they are named as gas permeable lenses.

Even though the old fashioned hard contact lenses are made of PMMA material which is of high quality they fail to transmit the oxygen to the eyes which result in other eye problems and hence those lens are a great failure. Unlike those lenses, GP lens with constant movement along with the eye transmit more oxygen to the eye and hence prevents problems caused due to contact lenses.

Few other advantages of these GP lenses are they can be designed to fit exactly to your eyes. Especially, in case of people suffering from astigmatism, they have the corneas which are not perfectly round in shape and all other lenses will not fit for them and for them these GP lenses are much useful since they can be customized according to the shape of the eye. Hence, these lenses are pretty good for people suffering with astigmatism.

Moreover, these lens are rigid and more durable when compared to the remaining two types of lenses. Because of their hard surface they can withstand any conditions and can resist deposits than the soft lenses. They are easy to handle and clean and offer more comfort while wearing and removing. Above all they are healthy to the eyes and do not affect them in anyways.
