Know About the Reasons for Alcohol Addiction

Alcohol addiction is a condition where there is compulsive need for an intoxicating liquid, alcohol. A person is said to be addicted to alcohol if he experiences withdrawal symptoms such as nausea, sweating, shakiness, or anxiety when alcohol consumption is stopped. Long term alcohol abuse can cause number of physical and psychological symptoms, physical symptoms includes including cirrhosis of the liver, pancreatitis, epilepsy, polyneuropathy, alcoholic dementia, heart disease, nutritional deficiencies, and sexual dysfunction. Psychiatric symptoms of the alcohol addiction includes a wide range of mental health problems. The psychiatric symptoms in the case of an alcohol addict includes anxiety and depression. Psychosis, confusion, and organic brain syndrome may be caused by alcohol misuse. Psychiatric disorders differ depending on the gender. Women who have alcohol use disorders often have a psychiatric diagnosis such as major depression, anxiety, panic disorders etc., associated with it.

Following are the reasons for alcohol abuse:

Emotional Reasons:
Emotions are the primary reasons for the alcohol abuse. People who are consistently depressed tend to become alcohol dependent. Alcohol abuse is also used as a means of escapism and alcohol dependency increases depression.

Socioeconomic Reasons:
Socioeconomic reasons for alcohol abuse vary. Wealthy people have sufficient resources and they also can have more access to alcohol when compared to the poor people. With in this wealthy people, alcohol abuse may also depend on the age, sex and other demo graphical factors.

Psychosocial:
Teens are particularly prone to psychosocial influences as they have social motivation to start drinking. Peer pressure is also one of the reasons for initiating the alcohol. Youth tend to consume more alcohol as they name more reasons to drink.

Environmental Factors:
Generally alcohol is available at low prices, therefore, there is an easy access to the alcohol. These environmental factors contribute to the increase of alcohol abuse in the individuals. Prevalent drinking cultures and laws also contribute to subsequent alcohol abuse.
